Please make every effort to attend the Town Council meeting regarding Roslyn Country Club at Town Hall TODAY, Tuesday, July 12. Arrive NO LATER than 7 to get seats.

Why Attend? Mr. Malekan’s representatives threatened to bring so many opponents to creation of a Town Park at Roslyn Country Club that they would not fit into Town Hall. As many of you know, a few opponents have been working hard, through deceptive flyers and publication, to do just that. We need to take this threat at face value — and appear in large numbers to support the Town’s plan.

Why Support a Town-Operated Club? It seems almost childishly simple. A Town takeover will result in a reopened and vastly improved RCC with no increased taxes needed to pay the costs. To the extent our easement rights are taken as well, we are entitled to compensation. Our community and its infrastructure were built to surround a vibrant and functioning facility. Make it reality once again!

There Are Lies Out There! Some people are opposing this Town initiative because they say it will raise taxes. This is simply not true. Town officials were crystal clear at the meeting in May and again in written form two weeks ago. They said: NONE OF THE COSTS OF OPERATING THIS FACILITY WILL COME FROM TAXES! The Town’s information is based on the advice their experts, who earn a living by accurately understanding what it takes to operate a complex park system. Ask the next cynic you hear why they think they know better!

Nassau is one of the fastest growing areas in America and our problems keep pace with the development. We refer to such things as the local school situation; police protection; traffic conditions; tax assessments and a dozen other things that complicate suburban life. As an individual you are powerless to deal with these situations. You are all familiar with the expression “GO FIGHT CITY HALL”. A strong, alert and vocal CA can make City Hall sit up and whistle Dixe. Join the CA and make sure your neighbors do the same.

Sunday, December 22, [1951] at 2 P.M., is the big moment for the children of the Roslyn Country Club Community.
The Third Annual Christmas Party sponsored by the civic assocaition, who will play host to one thousand youngsters. Candy-filled stockings, comic books and other gift will gladden the hears of the kids. Milt Lansky, of 39 Pebble Lane, will be in A-1 condition once again to play Santa’s part.
Santa Claus will be seated outside the club and will receive his gusts until 4 P.M.

For a long time now I’ve been obsessed with suburban and exurban master-planned communities and how to make them better. But as the economy and the mortgage crisis just seem to get worse, and gas prices continue to plunge, the issues around housing have changed dramatically. The problem now isn’t really how to better design homes and communities, but rather what are we going to do with all the homes and communities we’re left with.

I still dream that some major overhaul can occur: that a self-sufficient mixed-use neighborhood can emerge. That three-car-garaged McMansions can be subdivided into rental units with streetfront cafés, shops and other local businesses.

In short, that creative ways are found not just to rehabilitate these homes and communities, but to keep people in them.

A monster turnout of approximately 375 Country Clubbers attended the opening meeting of the 1951 Administration Wednesday evening, February 28th at the North Side School in East Williston, Preston David, Association president, presided.

Re: Civic Association Meeting on Tuesday 10/20/2010

Thanks you attending the Roslyn Country Club Civic Association meeting held on October 20, 2010. A great turnout of around 100 people were able to make it out during the Yankee game. It was reassuring to see such a respectable turnout.

If you were not able to make it, for whatever reason, the Civic Association requested each of us to contact Supervisor Jon Kaiman or Councilman Tom Dwyer and ask them to work with us saying something to the effect of “I would like the Roslyn Country Club to re-open and would greatly appreciate your support in whatever way you can help.”

We need them to want to be involved to help fix the situation, and they have to feel that we are paying attention and want their involvement. Please do this as soon as possible and help spread the word to your friends.

Also, can you help your neighborhood in any volunteer capacity?

Five officers of the Civic Association can’t effectively communicate with 700 people. We would love for your involvement!

Block captains would be a great asset. Some kind of phone chain or modern equivalent, like the schools use in emergencies, would be very helpful.

The Town of North Hempstead seems to be interested in taking this challenge on.

If the town officials are invited to attend the next meeting we need a full auditorium of informed, cooperative residents – ideally with some form of consensus amongst the community.

Let’s get this going! Time keeps slipping through the neighborhood. Now is the time to create the change in our neighborhood that we want.
